About the producers:
The Kii washing station, located in Ngairiama, Kenya, is part of the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society, which includes two other factories, Kiangoi and Karimikui. Established in 1997, it serves around 850 members who farm in the fertile soil at elevations of 1,600 to 1,900 meters.
Opened in 1995, the Kii Factory is beautifully situated at the base of Mt. Kenya, with the Kii River providing essential water for washing coffee. During harvest, growers select cherries, which are then de-pulped and washed in channels to separate the denser beans from floaters. After fermentation, the beans are washed again, soaked for 24 hours, and then dried on raised beds for 11 to 14 days. Finally, they are milled and graded for export.
